Built between 1774 and 1784 by the architect Jean François Chalgrin, this beautiful church is filled with visual treasures. The stained-glass dome with its regal reds and blues is high above the apse.

WOW! Just gorgeous, Genie.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful...almost like a kaleidoscope.
ReplyDeleteBrattcat took my comment, HA! It is gorgeous and yet another one I"ve not seen. You and I should do a church tour sometime, but that would mean we would not get to do our jardin/cafe/wine tours! :)

Wow, ten years in the making. I can see why! I bet this stained glass is photographed often. And how long do people stand there with their heads up and their necks cranked back? Are there many chiropractors in Paris?
ReplyDeleteWhat a spectacular piece of art. It is just so vivid
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely breathtaking! It just confirms my belief that you should walk into whichever church you walk past in Paris- otherwise you'll never know what you missed. I probably walked past this church last visit, and look what I missed! Stunning.
ReplyDeleteSpec-tac-u-lar!!!! Imagine the craftsmanship and artistry that went into that--wow.
ReplyDeleteL'Église Saint Philippe du Roule, est en effet magnifique!
ReplyDeletebon dimanche Genie.

Mind you, it's not Chartres, but it is lovely. This is one church we missed during our extensive 'pilgrimages' in the early 90s to French Gothic [and some Romanesque] cathedrals of the 12th & 13th centuries. Sigh-- some of our best vacations of all time -- how we envy your long sojourn in Paris!
ReplyDeleteWow awesome great colours must have took an age to make.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first glanced at this picture, I thought it was Galeries Lafayette.
ReplyDeleteIn a word...STUNNING!!! I am in awe of the craftsmanship in pieces such as this...
ReplyDeleteJust lovely!!!
