Mid eighties, there was one who was censored by the catholic church. Jesus laying on the floor, on his face, arms wide open, obviously fallen from his cross. Beneath, it said: with nails from BHV (famous shop), it would not have happened.
You've captured an interesting one here, not so much for the poster itself but more for the scribbled message underneath. There is a running battle in the city between Metrobus who manage the advertising in the Metro, and a group of protesters who see these posters as urban pollution.
Years ago, for a while on the back of every Paris bus there was an underwear ad that featured one of my best friends. It was very tame (this was years and years ago), but pulled me up short every time I saw it.
It's been so long since I've seen Paree I cannot recall. I'd love to go back again to find one; in the meantime I'll have to be content with the one you posted and the ones the commenters recall.
Restez cool was one of my favorites last year. Made you really want to restez cool all day long while you were in the not so cool Metro ... :-)
I also liked the ones advertising foreign language classes with the big tongue painted in the British flag -- if only painting my tongue like the French flag helped me speak French!
First, love a glimpse of my most frequently used metro stop.
Second, I saw an ad last April showing some sort of gizmo attached to a beautiful lady's face. I think the ad was for something that would make one appear more youthful. Oh how I wish I'd taken a photo.
Note to V: we'll all be waiting to see what you caught in your camera lens.
Edward Albee's birthday is this week and I heard an interview with him on NPR. A caller to the show told him that the caller had participated in a 1970s college performance of Virginia Woolf in which all the parts were played by men. Albee tried to be polite but it was clear that he was outraged that someone had turned a middle aged straight woman into a young gay man. Hah!
Rob and Mandy -- I think that we in the US went through a bit of that... interesting that what I would consider "mainstream" BHV would sponsor that ad. Merci
Ann -- Yes, this one is ageless... Good to see you again!
Vicki -- Agreed, merci!
martine -- J'aime bien cette affiche aussi... merci.
Richard -- J'ai deja montre des autres affiches de humour...
Malyss -- Ah, oui... comme une femme avec une moustache
Adam -- Thank you kindly for the explanation. I had tried to read what was written but had totally missed the overarching story... excellent! Merci
Alexa -- What fun! I think that you have lots of interesting stories I would like to hear, mon amie!
Kate -- You can find a few more in my previous posts that Marie has mentioned... some are sexy and some are just funny and a bit campy
Marie -- Yes, I really liked the "restez cool" guy too!
Halcyon -- I am going to have to focus on the "overlay" comments on these posters on my next trip... merci!
Virginia -- Certainly... that's what good friends are for! Can't wait to see it on your blog!
Harriet -- That sounds very strange, but not totally surprising... stay tuned!
Loree -- I snapped this one for Virginia and totally missed the "message" described by Adam in his comment
Tammy -- I will bring you more and give you the virtual tour.... for now.
Starman -- I imagine that someone has sold that particular poster for a nice price
Jack -- I am working on the West Coast this week and miss my daily dose of NPR... what a funny story and will have to catch it online... merci!
Funny, I took a number of poster images from our trip in Paris. One we were disappointed to learn that we missed the Pink Martini concert in Paris during our trip.

ReplyDeleteThat's a nice one...
ReplyDeleteSomething that would look good through the years ♥
Posters and Paris.....a great combination....Love this one...xv

I like it when people make their comments on the ads. I agree with you here though... this one is pretty tame. :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you have up your sleeve! You are daring me to post the ad I have! :) Well I might just get my nerve up very soon. teehee.
ReplyDeleteI"m with M, love the language ads with the painted tongues.

I don't pay much attention to posters when I'm on vacation. I guess I need to be more careful in future :)
ReplyDeleteSince I haven't been to Paris, I just rely on your photos/blog. Thanks for keeping things interesting!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite poster was the one I saw last October. It was advertising a Micheal Jackson concert to be held in January 2010. http://tiny.cc/0pkv6

Virginia is the lady who cried, "Wolff!"
ReplyDeleteInteresting adverts in the metro. Thanks.
I love it. That was just playing here about a week ago!
