On a snowy day we found this trio of ballerinas at Palais Garnier...

  1. Oh, lovely.... I was inside the Palais Royal once for a performance and felt like I was back in the 17th century...beautiful decor. Never been to Palais Garnier, though.

  3. Oh my, what a beautiful photo! I just love it!
When I saw this in my reader I wanted to be there and see it with my own eyes. It should be amazing!
Have a nice day Genie! :)

  4. Love it! The very Parisian buildings in the background peeking out through a dusting of snow, the sparkling ornaments on the tree, the beautiful poses of the dancers, and ... my favorite part ... the angel on top of the tree that looks like it is dancing, too! Magnifique!

  5. The simplicity of the ballerinas balances the very glam tree really beautifully. The B&W is lovely for this, Genie.

  8. Oh Genie this is a delight. I've never tiptoed inside. You must share how I can do that. I hear you must attend a performance in order to get inside. Share your secrets!

  13. Bibi -- Almost all of my shots of Palais Garnier are of the architecture on the outside

Parisian Heart -- It is a stunning building and with the recent renovations you can actually get a photo of the front without scaffolding

Tina -- Many thanks. This was taken in the gift shop of Palais Garnier and I was at first concerned that they would not let me take photos. I was timid at first and then just went wild with the trigger finger!

Marie -- The buildings in the background certainly set the scene for this vignette. Merci, mon amie!

Shell -- Thank you... Other than the tree, there was not much color in this photo and it does look better in b/w

Léia -- Merci... I have more ballerinas to come in different settings... glad you like them.

    Randy -- Merci beaucoup

Virginia -- This is the gift shop (on the east side... around to the right). It is not well marked and Holly just happened to see someone coming out of the door while we were across the street looking up at the opera balconies.

Cildemer -- Many thanks... I would have liked to buy a ballerina but they were quite pricey.

Nadege -- Merci, mon amie... I did think that the setting was very French.

Alexa -- As you know, when you are taking lots of shots in a limited amount of time, you do not discover the little treats (like the angel) until you unload them on a screen.

  14. Love the tree against the background of buildings outside the window!!! And the ballerinas complete the composition!!!

  15. Malyss -- It does have a certain romantic theme. I could have stayed in that spot for quite some time with the ballet music playing in the background

Loree -- I think that my ballerina sister would like one of these... Maybe she will settle for the photo instead!

  16. Chieftess -- I was aware of the background, but did not appreciate how it completed the scene until I looked at this shot later. Merci!

  21. I really just love this shot. It's so calm and beautiful, and, well..Parisian! It's also a little nostalgic for some reason. Perhaps because I did ballet for 10 years? It's such an art. Just like your photography :)

  22. Interestingly, this actually works in B&W, even though I usually associate brilliant colours with Christmas trees and hoop skirts. I like the deep blacks as a reference point for intensity, and then the many levels of grey going toward white, offering a softness to the photo. Thank you.
