That's an inviting picture, in black and white. Doesn't look like a cemetery at all; those could be houses. I suppose, on second thought, they are; I take it they are family crypts.
Actually, those could be two lovers out for a late-day stroll.
Laurent -- I find this a wonderful place of contemplation and quiet. How fortunate you are to be so close by. Oh, and did I mention all of the photo-ops?
Bibi -- Just blow me away with a compliment, my dear! I love cemeteries and always seek them out on my travels. (Recoleta in Buenos Aires, Prague, and an old cemetery in Puerto Natales, Chile are favorites)
Shell -- Merci... the December lighting is much softer than the high-sun months... a definite plus!
Marie -- Funny that you mention "village of miniature churches" as I almost posted one with a similar title. I will post another day... merci!
Suzi -- That is one of the wonderful things about travel is that when you see another's photo, it reminds you of your visit to the same location.
Harriet -- Merci, mon amie.
Virginia -- Loved the couple in the photo and the crouched photographer was just a bonus. I did take a shot or two from his perspective.
My blogfriend James was there a few days ago; Maybe it's him, down there, taking a picture! I love this place, it's so peaceful, and interesting and rich..
Bear! -- I missed your comments as I was responding... When I visit in December and cold months, there are not many tourists at all and it is possible to get great shots without the bermuda shorts, fanny-pack and white tennis-shoed tourist in every angle. You do see "local" people enjoying the solitude and the walks.
BTW, the photo is almost a virtual black and white, but if you look at the tombs on the far right, you will see green roofs. I almost made this a b/w but the tiny bit of color emphasizes the grayness of the day.
Malyss -- James of Newtown? This was taken some time ago but I always share the space there with other photographers, even when it is almost deserted. Hey, it could have been Laurent! Wouldn't it have been fun to run into another photographer (blogger) on the streets or in PL?
Bonjour chère Genie, So romantic composition in this picture, I love the angle and the feeling of rain...a peaceful scenery, it wold be a movie scenery! Wow cool! bises Léia
Excellent perspective on this one Genie! And I think it's perfect that you didn't process it in B&W as the little bits of green really add to the composition!
Clueless -- You will enjoy Paris and your camera(s) will love her!
Léia -- Hah! It definitely had the feeling of rain as it surely had rained within the past several hours (typical of decembre). I thought that it seemed a bit like a movie setting also. Merci!
Starman -- So glad you like... did you go there?
Chieftess -- Thanks for the support... sometimes it is a challenge to decide. If it had not been so late last night I might have sent it to V and gotten her vote on the b/w versus the color.
I studied this photograph for quite a while. So much to see and examine. The moss on the roofs of the crypts, the sunlight filtering through the trees, the man kneeling (in grief?) What an interesting picture!
Margaret -- So glad that a photographer noticed! The photo does beg to be in b/w, but the little touch of green just points out the natural grayness of that day. Merci!
Marjolijn -- You really must go when you visit Paris again. It is beautiful in all seasons. In the summer with its lush green colors and in winter with its stark grayness and bare trees.
great view ! I live nearby.
ReplyDeleteI love Pere-Lachaise cemetery. This is a Cartier-Bresson shot!
ReplyDeleteThe light here is gorgeous, Genie. A beautiful image...

The moss on the roof tops and the way the leaves catch the light is perfect. A village of miniature churches... just lovely and so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteI have walked this exact path....x
ReplyDeleteGreat perspective. Paths are always so interesting.
ReplyDeleteAn often photographed, but I've not seen this view. Wonderful light and the couple.......parfait!

ReplyDeleteVery nice long shot. I've never been to Paris, but am planning on visiting soon and will definitely visit this cemetery.

A nice shot. Cemeteries just make me cry even if I don;t know anyone that's buried there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely shot Genie. It would be interesting to see it in a Sepia tone.

Great POV, Genie!
ReplyDeleteFantastic perspective, Genie!
ReplyDeleteGreat angle! I love how it displays the moss on the roofs of the crypts.
ReplyDeleteLoree -- I just think about the history and the lives of those buried there.
ReplyDeleteRandy -- Merci... I will have to try that out... great suggestion
Liz -- Thank you for your comments. I think that the kneeling man is a photographer.
Polly -- great to hear from you... hope all is well
JM -- Merci for your comments...
Paul -- Those crypts almost appear to have a green carpet... Thanks!
It is the grayness that got my attention , then the spot of colour. A wonderful composition!
ReplyDeleteWe very much wanted to visit the Père Lachaise-cimetery in Summertime, but time was lacking unfortunately. Next time we will!
ReplyDeleteMoi aussi, j'ai parlé de ce cimetiere! Ta photo est superbe.
