Rainy Day in Paris

From a hotel room window frequented by my daughter and me, the street below bustles with neighborhood activity. The season and the weather do not seem to matter as daily life settles into its routine.

I love the French expression "metro, boulot, dodo" to express the weekday cycle of going to work, working, coming home, sleeping and then doing it all over again. Since it is French, I am surprised that there is no mention of divine baquettes, wine, et fromage.

  1. Is this a good hotel? Always looking for a new place to stay. I have one Place de la Republique which is nice. Like your slice-of-life photo.

  2. Scenes like this is not what is being broadcast on Canadian TV's. We are seeing destruction and protest marches. Are sure you're in France?

  6. I love that expression, I've never heard it before! Your photo brings back memories of our last visit to Paris over 10 years ago! We visited in the Spring and had several rainy days...
Thank you so much for you comment on my 1 year bloggyversary. I'm so happy to have met you and look forward to many visits here!!

  7. Oh I love a cute little bricolage!!! They always have little stuff I want but can't squeeze in the petit valise. I'm with you Genie, I'm not all that sad I"m not in Paris right this minute. Things are a little "touchy" over there.

PS Guess what I had for ma petit déjeuner? Pain au chocolat from Continental Bakery. Dinah bought it for me. Miam miam!

  9. Beautiful photo of the street sign. Transported me there immediately -- which isn't easy, given the current state of transportation.

  10. That's my old neighborhood—isn't it great? I'm really enjoying your view of typique Paris. Meanwhile, metro, boulot, dodo is how I live my life these days—only it sounds so much better in French!

  14. La Dolphina -- I'll help you blow out the candles and pop the balloons!

Virginia -- I guess that the solution is to just rent a container and bring it ALL back - hehe.

Starman -- The shopping here is a bit like an old neighborhood hardware store.

AH -- Right now, being transported virtually may be the best until everything gets moving again.

Alexa -- Glad that we "share" that neighborhood. You would probably have to say, "métro, pont, boulot, pont, dodo" since you cross BB every day!

Loree -- Well it is sunny and warm today but I have been in non-sunny California for 5 days. I hope that the weather is not too gray in Paris today.

Beth -- Thank you for stopping in to make a comment. Come back for a visit.

Sara -- Hope that you will soon get some relief from the strikes! How is Fifty coming with his little red wagon?

  15. Il pleut; encore ou toujours?

Probably not toujours, but one cannot be sure at this time of year. (It may just seem like toujours.)

Cute little neighbourhood. Seems so françaus!

  16. The nice thing about Paris (as compared to the coast) is that, even when it rains, it never really rains for very long.

  17. Genie - Ha! (I almost said that.)

  18. I love all the different colored chairs. Nice shot!

  19. Bear -- I think that it just seems like toujours although I have never been to Paris in October.

Paul -- Based on my experiences during rainy periods (December) it rains, it stops, the sun shines, it rains again. Never boring!

Alexa -- You and I would definitely add "baguette et vin" to the mix!

Randy -- It is a colorful view even in the rain.

  20. A busy but very appealing corner of the world! Love how the motion of the bike rider is captured in contrast with the more defined shop window!
