I think those are the ultimate flying buttresses! Look at all the little arches on the roof line. Very unique perspectice. I can almost hear that beautiful soprano Alleluia I had the privilege of listening to there a couple of years ago ...
Hi Genie, Thanks for your comments on my Mundesley blue photos....hope you had a good holiday! I've just this weekend come back from Hot air ballooning in Italy and I'm catching up on all the pix people have posted....hope to have some good ones also of - guess what? Balloons!
Great shot! Notre Dame is much too large and has way too many details to take in all at once. Viewing it in sections makes it easier. I notice new things every time I see it.
Shell -- If I had cropped it, the façade begins to resemble Escher. Merci!
Andy -- Thank you. There are so many amazing churches in Paris it is difficult to choose.
Paul -- I love the view from the back as well. This one is from the side facing the 5ième arr.
Virginia -- Hah! I am going with "gargoyle huts." Great name for them!
Chrys -- Merci à toi mon français sera mieux. J'aime ton blog.
M -- You were so fortunate to be there to hear it.
Gringo -- Looking forward to more balloons in Italy! We have several cities in the US which are known for their balloon festivals.
Randy -- Merci, and I will whisper that secret in Santa's ear.
Mr Bird -- You almost need a collage of photos to get a sense of the cathedral but I really like the repetition of the individual structural elements from this angle. Thanks!
Loree -- If you turned 100 people loose with cameras and told them to return in 2 hours with 100 photos, you would have quite an interesting collection of different photos. Simply put, there is something for everyone here!
Alexa -- I agree with you and so glad that this cathedral and others have survived neglect, wars, and abuse. It is great to see so many of them being restored.
James -- I have taken the "full front" shots many times but love the interesting angles and the affects of seasons on this structure.
Shari -- Agreed, and I prefer to be here in seasons other than summer or at least very early in the morning when it is quiet in the streets.
Starts to play tricks with my eyes after a while! A lovely view, Genie...
ReplyDeleteFantastic Cathedral.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photo.
One of my favorite views of Notre-Dame is the view from the back.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, we were sitting on that bench in the park. Fond memories.
ReplyDeleteThey look like fancy schmancy dog houses! :)
V
OR gargoyle huts!
ReplyDeleteGrâce à toi, je visite une ville que je ne connais guère... Merci

ReplyDeleteOk ok I know now what I want for Christmas, tickets to Paris! I love seeing your city through your eyes Genie.
ReplyDeleteYa, you could spend a year photographing it... or more.
ReplyDeleteYes you could take thousands of pictures of that building. I could not stop taking one photo after another.
ReplyDeleteOooh, very nice, Genie! Didn't skimp on the details, did they? Always amazed at what they were able to accomplish so many centuries ago.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot!

I could spend a week here, just studying the architecture and meditating! XX!
