Sacré Coeur

A different angle in order to escape the thousands who sit on the steps in the summer evenings.

  4. It looks very overcast. The difference between the mono and the colour versions was probably not immense.

  5. Mad -- Uh, again?

Virginia -- Thanks for giving us both credit for "great minds"....

Brittany -- I am glad that I have seen this place when it was indeed peaceful though it was not on this day in June.

Shell -- The first time I was here was with my daughter and they were having a service -- The voice of an absolute angel filled the basilica. It gave me chill bumps.

Julie -- This is the "color" version if you can believe it. I did look at the b/w but the grayness of the day made the color version more interesting. Thank you for noticing!

  6. Oh, gorgeous! In a way it's nice that so many people would gather at a place of worship and spirituality, right? On the other hand, crowds are so annoying! XX!

  7. I know it's touristy, but what's not to like about Sacré Coeur?

  9. I love the way you and V have a similar—and yet totally different—thought. Thanks for angling away from the teeming hordes to give us this wonderful shot!

  10. Amazing photo Genie. What a beautiful place and I am sure it is more breath taking in person.

  11. Shari -- The crowd inside is just fine but spirituality is not the primary reason for the gathering crowd on the front steps. It is a beautiful basilica.

M -- He is almost hidden but looks like he is leaping from the roof!

Alexa -- V and I are like twins separated at birth and neither knew about the Sunday postings. We were not even there together. ??

Bonjour, Princess in the Castle -- Thanks for "following" my blog. Merci!

Randy -- You can see it from across Paris so you know it is huge, but when you get as close as I was for this shot, it hits you just how massive the basilica is.

  12. Bonjour Madame,

Can't leave without saying "HI". Sacre Coure is a phenomenal church. I love sitting on the stairs just chillaxing the ambiance of a beaute Paris.

    Happy Sunday.

  13. Richie -- So glad that you stopped to say "hi" -- Yes, when you sit on these steps you can on clear days view an incredibly beautiful city. People at Centre Pompidou are looking this way and admiring from the other direction!

I hope that you will visit again!

  14. Ah, Montmartre... I lived very close to the Sacre Coeur for a while, and that arrondissement remains part of my heart and soul. Like the angle, and yes, I much prefer Montmartre in the winter when there are fewer people...

  15. Bibi -- You are quite the envy of all of us who have never lived in Paris. I do feel fortunate to have come to know this incredible city, discovering her secrets little by little.
