Hung out to dry

Le cinquième étage, window with a view of Paris rooftops, purring appartement chat, quiet locked courtyard, a gentle breeze....

I play an imaginary role as I fashion myself a Parisian, shopping in the market, having "un noisette" in the corner café at "sept heures et demie" each day, greeting the young couple from le deuxième étage as we pass in the courtyard....

It just does not get any better than this! Yet, when the time comes I am ready to return to my regular life, my everyday existence, le quotidien.....

To dream of the next trip to Paris...

  2. Oh what a lovely trip that was! Learning to use the "coffeemaker" and listening to french music while making dinner!!! But I know a certain person who will not be thrilled that his unmentionables are posted for all the world to see! ;-) Hehehe.

Only thing that could have made the photo better would have been Oscar sitting in a corner of the window.

  3. And let me guess......no lift to the cinquième étage!! Whew! That said, you are absolutely right, it doesn't get much better than that. Love this photograph Genie!

  4. I totally agree with your sentiments. I love my trips to Paris, but I also love 'coming home'.

  5. It does sound romantic to live in a 5 floor walk-up apartment in Paris, but it is not always easy. We lived on the 5th floor (6th floor in the US) without a lift in the 9th arrondissement of Paris and my mother would always forget something, so I had to go back down to get some bread or milk. When we came home with too many groceries we would have to make 2 trips. The worst was during the air raid during the war, we had to get down in the dark to the cellar. But it does some romantic.

  7. A friend lent me his 5th-floor Paris apt. a few years ago, and I never complained about the climb even once—I was too happy just to be there! (And I did not want to come home.) This is a charming little slice of Parisian life, Genie!

  8. Alexa -- I started to say "really the 6th floor to climb" but didn't. I have talked with many Paris visitors who want the "slice of life" experience all the while knowing it is fabricated. Well, I am not always ready to come home -- bien sûr!

Starman -- Love your Flickr photo of the jeans drying in much the same way

Vagabonde -- I counted the steps up and down each time. It certainly made it easier to chow down on a pastery after all the exercise!

Harriet -- You'll have to tell me about your plans for the next trip

V -- Thanks, it seemed a bit "loose" but at least it has RED

Holly -- I had forgotten about the challenges of the coffee-maker. Shhh, say nothing to Monsieur J. I have several photos of Oscar and will find one to post

Brittany -- Bien sûr, but the laundry is a bit in the way of the view -- hah!

  9. This could be here! It's such a typical scene in the oldest parts of our cities.

  10. I don't know why laundry on a line charms me, but it does.
