Hail to the Chief!

The procession begins with President Sarkozy who stands tall (?) as he rides down the Champs-Élysées, la plus belle avenue du monde. Obviously, this year's weather does not match the blue skies of 2008 -- I stood alone making friends at the barricades for 4 hours to see the parade from Arc de Triomphe to Place de la Concorde. Quelle bonne fête nationale!

  1. You know, he looks just like a man who is thinking.... "I hope I don't fall off this box I am standing on!"

All the best with the new blog

  2. Don't apply for a job as a bodyguard if you're taller than 5' 5"...

  3. I don't think he looks all that happy. It is almost as if he is thinking of the places he would rather be. It is a good photography though and I especially like the one of the two sailors on the previous post.

I am trying to get some favorite family recipes from my favorite bloggers. I even started a new blog—Fat Lady Recipes—to hold them. I have received some submissions with more promised. A photo of your dish is nice but not required. A photo of yourself is required as well as your real name. Sometimes I can use your profile photo if it is not an icon.

The Fat Lady Recipes blog should be getting some magazine coverage soon but I am not at liberty to talk about just yet.

You don't have to be fat to share recipes.

  7. I'm LOL at Keith's comment, since you said you thought he was standing on a box. JB, he might not like tall bodyguards, but I'm guessing M. Sarkozy is a good bit taller. Well I guess that's different! :)

And those little hats below. Is that their names across the front? That's just a terrific shot Genie.

  8. Mme Sarkozy weighs in at 5'10", has to wear flats and carry the beer-crate on which he stands.....

  9. That's hilarious JB. I hope she wears Repetto ballet flats. Surely the Big Cheese gets to stand on a French Wine crate! And I'm sure I can speak for Genie in thanking your for ALLLL your help and encouragement in figuring out the template insanity. What on earth would these two southern belles evah have done without ya????

( And I meant Mme. Sarkozy! Good grief I need more coffee!)

  12. Keith, thanks for visiting and for your comments. I love your blog and have found many great sites through your great reviews. Come back soon!

Abraham, I surely am glad to hear that you don't have to be fat

M, it was une bonne fete to be in Paris with wonderful friends. You will probably see some places/people you recognize in future posts (wink)

Alexa, I left you a comment about your cafe shot today. Maybe the chill will filter to south Alabama!

JB, as we would say, "you are just such a mess!" Bless your little heart.

V, I agree -- It must be a wine crate and I would imagine that there are many Repettos chez eux.

  18. Great picture of Sarkozy. I, too, was wondering what he was standing on to make him look as tall as the general next to him.

  19. Starman, look at how he has a death grip on the handlebar -- there is definitely a box under those little feet!

ET Suzy -- and I have le Tour Eiffel in my collection as well. Too bad that many of them from the night shoot a few weeks ago had the bright large screen la Coupe du monde de football obstructing the perfect view. Tant pis pour mois!

  26. You watched the défilé ? how exciting ! I wish I had been there. Did you see the African armies marching ? I hear they were invited to celebrate their 50 years independance from France. Do you have any pictures of them ? I’d love to see them.

  27. Vagabonde -- Thank you for posting and for the kind welcome. I was not in Paris for 14 juillet this year although I would have loved it. Tant pis pour mois. I understand that it only rained during the parade and only on Champs Élysées. Please visit again.
