Boulangerie, pâtisserie, fromagerie, charcuterie,
épicerie, marchand de vin....
How can you not love the French language with the beautiful sounds of these words! As a quiz, which of the above does not belong? You say "marchand de vin" as there is no alliteration? Oh, mais non! Je pense que tu te tort because how can you stop at each of these and not also stop in at the wine shop for une bouteille de vin rosé to round out le dîner? (Trick question, n'est-ce pas?)
J'adore baguettes! At any time of day you will likely find a queue for the warm baguettes, and the aroma of baking bread will lure you off the street. I found this scene at Boulangerie St Louis (on Ile Saint Louis) on my recent June trip to Paris, and identified with the young woman who seems to be having trouble with her decision. The little person in the stroller looks quite interested as well!
Now I can dream about Paris tonight! Too bad I won't awake to the smell of fresh croissants or pain au chocolat or the echoing sound of heals on an old Parisian sidewalk. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat shot Genie - Ile Saint Louis - now that's a lovely place to shop - I think I'd settle for a crusty petite-baguette (which I'd stuff with nice ripe runny Brie-de-Meaux) followed by pain au chocolat. Miam

Boulangeries are like heaven. They smell delicious; they sell beautiful treats that taste divine too. What a wonderful picture and post
ReplyDeleteBonne journée
Hee hee, the young lady also reminded me of what I'd look like ~ decisions, decisions, impossible decisions! Beautiful scene, Genie and I love those colours.
ReplyDeleteLe Petit Village is so tiny that we only have an epicerie. Luckily, the boulangerie from one of the next villages delivers baguettes every morning. I don't really know how I survived without the baguette before
ReplyDeleteUne baguette chaud, un délicieux fromage, une pâtisserie savoureuse, et une bouteille de vin de pays ... le repas parfait!
ReplyDeleteI love how the Parisians will wait patiently in a long line any time of day for a good baguette. I don't blame them! Note the little guy is wrapped up like it's the dead of winter in June!

James -- I'll take a pain au chocolat, s'il te plaît.
ReplyDeleteDianne -- You bring the Brie-de-Meaux and I'll find les baguettes. Have you seen Chez Lulu, the cheese queen of France's blog? She plans to taste and critique the near 1000 (or more) cheeses of France.
Shell -- I was taken by the shades of green and by the panels on either side of the windows. I did think later that the young woman was not a regular as she was hesitating and indecisive. Most of the regulars in the queue at Eric Kayser are quite quick. The queue moves fast!
Sara -- I think that having baguettes delivered "down le rue" daily sounds divine! We are all most envious!
M -- et ce matin, un noisette ou un crème!
Virginia -- I wondered if anyone would notice the little guy in his "bundled up state" -- It was the middle of juin. There is a blogger who wrote about bundling up children in the heat of summer but can't remember?
Brittany -- You can come to the party too! Have a great weekend!
Can anyone pass a boulangerie and not at least look in the window?
ReplyDeleteGlad you found my blog because I found yours :) I love your photos. My husband and I spent 4 days in Paris last year and enjoyed it a great deal. Looks like Paris has captured your heart like Tuscany has captured mine :)
ReplyDeleteNow I crave a Domaine Tempier Rosé, and it's your fault.
ReplyDeleteYou lost me at Boulangerie and pâtisserie. As a bread aficionado, All i care about were the baguettes, demi baguettes, croissants and countless other pastry jewels. So much wonderful bread that is not duplicated in grocery marts.
ReplyDeleteRob -- Yeah, me too. I think that baguette, cheese and wine is quite a complete repas.
ReplyDeleteAltadenahiker -- Can we buy one in the USA? I am going to look -- now I am very thirsty!
Starman -- We will not just look in the window, but snatch up a warm baguette!
Loree -- I will be visiting you often on your blog. You will have to tell me about your favorites in Tuscany. I love the small villages, similar to southern France.
