If you look up while walking on rue Cler,
you can see this spire and clock...

not found on the usual Paris maps

Bon Marche

le Bon Marche

The escalators here give a visual challenge
with an abstract sense of movement.

It is difficult enough to find the escLalator going up
in this grand magasin but am I upside down?

Cadran Solaire Vertical

Vertical Sundial

Many sundials can be found in Paris,
either high on a building (to catch the sun's rays)
 or on the ground.

This one is vertical and found in Montmartre.

Joie de vivre!

After a very long day walking all over Paris
it is an absolute joy to find a Metro escalator
to ride up to the street level.

When I find one,
I do a little happy dance (discretely).
This little girl just thought it was funny -
what a doll...

Église Saint-Germain des Prés

Église Saint-Germain des Prés

One of the oldest churches in Paris,
and it has its own Métro stop.

I have featured this church many times before with historical details,
but you might like to know that this is a Val d'Osne signpost (totem)
and it was created in the 1920s with its luminous opaline globe to better
light the Métro entrances.  There are a few that remain.
 How many have you seen?

In warm, sunny weather living on a boat
moored on the Seine seems like paradise.

I will have to remember to check out

Petit Musée de la Table de la Tour d'Argent

Little Museum of the Table

...of the Table?
Why, a most famous table, that of La Tour d'Argent.
The little museum has a display of cutlery, original menus,
and memorabilia from times gone by.

Probably the most impressive display, is that of a table,
which is laid out exactly as it would have been for a royal assembly
and pretigious event that took place in Paris in 1867.

Before you write down the address and put it on your to-do list
please note that it is only available in the reception area of the restaurant,
for which you have made dinner reservations.  Tant pis pour moi.

PiTR

PiTR

One Paris' graphic street artists, PiTR
met another street artist, Ella.

When asked how they met, PiTR said:

We met each other one autumn evening in 2007 in the streets of St Etienne, while pasting. Ella, who comes from the south of France, was pasting up her first drawings, and I asked her what she was doing and if she’d like to paste work with me. She said yes – now we have two children.

You can read about them here.

Les photographes à Notre Dame

Photographers at Notre Dame

This shady corner in front of Notre Dame
is often the scene of interviews
and film crews...

I have no idea what this is about,
but I am guessing that Mr. Orange Scarf
is the subject.

Basilique du Sacré Coeur

Sacre Coeur

In contrast to the Gothic churches of the Middle Ages like Notre-Dame (1163-1240),
the Romano-Byzantine style of Sacre Coeur is inspired by churches
such as Saint Sofia in Constantinople and San Marco in Venice.

The exterior travertine stone, known as ‘Château-Landon’,
comes from the Souppes-sur-Loing quarry in Seine et Marne
and is particular in that it is extremely hard with a fine grain
and exudes calcite on contact with rainwater,
 making it white.

The colored cups are not often seen in Paris,

I would choose Cafés Richard over Starbucks for certain,
and I do wish that I had some of these colorful cups for coffee and tea.

Amidst the rooftops and chimney pots,
the dome of Saint-Augustin pushes toward the heavens.

With no special effects or editing,
this scene is seen just as it appeared:
a limited color palette
and situated against the backdrop of modern Paris buildings.

City Daily Photo - Theme Day - La Revolution

City Daily Photo
Theme Day

On the first day of each month the photographers who participate daily with photos of their city (or adopted city) post a photo along a selected theme.  This month is "revolution," and I chose to consider the revolutions in wheels.

This woman is riding a Velib,
which is the public bicycle system in Paris.

On three trips to Paris I have used the Velibs,
dodging the buses and cars to take a different view of the city.
I do not take photos while I ride which is a great comfort to my family.

Take a look at all of the interpretations of the CDP photographers here.
