Jardinières avec des fleurs rouges

Window boxes

On the second floor of this building in the Marais
the bleeding heart flowers and masses of red blooms
first caught my eye.

The giant thermometer which could be read
from the street was a fascination.

un Jardin -- Château de Chenonceau

Chenonceau

At the edge of the Cher river,
this Chenonceau formal garden
offers a carpet of flowers punctuated with
urns and shrubs.

The castle grounds are a maze of
beautifully orchestrated plans

Fabien Breuvart - Images et Portraits

How fortunate we were to meet Fabien Breuvart  (with the glasses)
who I featured previously here

I have visited him twice since, audaciously delivering a photo of him
that I took (see previous post).  Beyond the talent is his passion
for his art and for social issues and an incredible sense of humor

Église Saint Pierre - Chartres

Église Saint Pierre

Saint-Pierre Church in Chartres is not as well known
as the Cathedral of our Lady of Chartres,
but this 13th Century church is a Gothic masterpiece
with some windows surviving from the 14th Century.

Hôtel de Sully - le jardin

In the orangerie of Hôtel de Sully
you will find this ornate stone lattice
against a backdrop of green....

Green, in the spring, but...
a rich mix of reds and oranges
in the fall

showing the new leaves of spring.

Merci - la cantine

The lower floor of Merci in the Marais
has a charming restaurant called La Cantine.
It is one of three at Merci

You feel as if you are in a country courtyard,
far from the busy boulevard Beaumarchais

Les premiers rayons de soleil printaniers

The first rays of sun each spring...
a dry windless day, morning sunshine,
the green chair of the garden,
and the warmth soaking to the skin

Do I detect a smile of contentment?

Trop de pigeons!

Too Many Pigeons!

I wonder if she had been reading a book or a newspaper
rather than playing with her phone
if she would have noticed the green shrubs,
the purple iris, the roses, and...

the overabundance of pigeons!

Église Protestante Luthérienne Saint-Jean

Protestant Lutheran Church Saint-Jean

Sitting on rue de Grenelle with a lovely garden,
a brisk walker might even pass it by.

In the spring the emerging green leaves and subtle shadows
bring life to a redwood, a birch, a sycamore, and a lime.
It looks like a storybook scene.

On the great lawn in front of La Tour Eiffel
one can walk, play, picnic, and lounge
on the grass, at least in the spring and summer.

Roi Charles épagneul

King Charles Spaniel

The Parisians dote on their dogs, no matter the size.
This King Charles was outfitted with a fleece lined rain-cape
for the intermittent showers of spring.

I have seen small dogs and large,
the biggest... a Great Dane on rue de Richelieu!

Église Saint-Nicholas du Chardonnet

Église Saint-Nicholas du Chardonnet

In the early winter years of visiting this church
I found it dark and uninteresting.

A bright warm day showed its interior
to better advantage.

Eric Kayser

Eric Kayser

There are so many amazing pastries in Paris,
but this boulangerie/pâtisserie is a favorite.

For many years my daughter and I stayed just around the corner
and could smell the baguette ovens
from our beds in the early morning hours.
Eric Kayser's orignal store is here on rue Monge,
and if you are nearby you should definitely
have a "baguette Monge."

The lemon tarts are pretty tasty, too

Une belle matinée de printemps - Parc de Bercy

le Lapin Agile

Le Lapin Agile
"the agile rabbit"

A famous Montmartre cabaret, this charming place
was once called Cabaret des Assassins.

Covered in ivy from early spring
it sits just opposite the Montmartre vineyards on its steep hill.
Although I have never been inside,
my camera has probably clicked a thousand photos over the years.
Like much of Paris, each season changes the perspective.

La cour de Petit Palais

The courtyard of Petit Palais

The trapezoid shape of Petit Palais forms an open area
at the center of the building.
The enclosed area creates a semicircular, peristyle courtyard.

The elegant courtyard is considered Beaux Arts style
for the  “symmetrical composition” and “rich decoration in high relief.”
Coupled columns made of pink Vosges granite
and gilt-bronze garlands encircle the courtyard.

Les Portes de Parc Monceau

The Gates of Parc Monceau

Gabriel Davioud (1824-1881) was given the job
of creating the monumental entrances for this quiet park on boulevard de Courcelles
with the imposing gilded wrought iron gates.

The details have been meticulously maintained,
and reflect the afternoon sun.

le bateau rouge

the (big) red boat
Le Batofar (bateau-phare)

This big red boat has a story:

Le Batofar ignited the "night club on boat" trend in Paris. This lighthouse boat (in French bateau-phare) offers an original setting on the bank of the Seine in the 13ième. It is known for its progressive musical programming which champions cutting edge electro bands live, and its renowned DJ-driven afterhours dance parties. During the day, Batofar is also a community gathering that serves as a restaurant, café and a summertime "beach" hang-out (Paris-Beach). (Wikipedia)

I wish that I could say we partied here...

Les yeux verts - City Daily Photo Theme Day

"the green eyes"

To look at someone with green eyes might imply envy
but to see these eyes today
I feel thankful for the times I have been in Paris
with a promise of many more visits to come.

Anyway, my eyes are blue.

Today I join the City Daily Photo bloggers around the world
in Theme Day, "My Camera-Shy Self Portrait."
See the creative interpretations of the April theme here.
