Jour du Macaron - 20 mars 2013

Oh, how I wish that I was in Paris today to enjoy the celebration of macarons.  Started by Pierre Hermé several years ago, one could run to each of the stores for up to three free macarons at each.  For those who made it to every Pierre Hermé in Paris there was a beautiful box of macarons, a treasure chest.  Pierre Hermé made a charity donation in honor of the day.

The success of the day quickly put a halt to the free macaron hunt and end-of-day bonus.  Still, it would be fun to follow the map for a macaron-saturated day.

Unfortunately I´ve never been in Paris on the jour du macaron. I´m sure we would have fun to go macaron-hunting together...

What a wonderful display. The macaron has certainly become an icon of French Cuisine. Can I have the pink one on the bottom row?

Le 20 mars, c'est aussi la journée internationale sans viande...Sommes nous certains qu'il n'y a pas de viande dans les macarons ?

That sounds like fun, pity the free macarons are still not available but I can imagine to became a bit expensive for the shops involved! Take care Diane

I just love macaroons - we made some last weekend and they were wonderful - but I am convinced no macaroon could taste as good as in Paris...loved the story behind the romantic little treats - thanks Genie

This sounds like a fabulous celebration. What next? Chocolate day and we can get free chocolates?

Oh, be still my heart -- what an amazing photograph and how I would love a macaron today. I must go on a hunt. Probably a futile one! Happy Spring. Or fall, I guess!

No, spring. Silly -- you're not "down under!"

So it's macaron day? I've seen pictures of those towers on several French blogs today.

What a fun idea! A great way to spend the day in Paris.

I'd be willing to pay the price in pounds gained to participate. Lots of places here in NYC are giving out a free macaron today (but not Ladurée—hmph).

I like macarons, but never have figured out why people think they're a gift from god!

Such a romantic display with the swirl of organza. It's lovely, Genie. I'm glad macarons have a day in their honour.
